79. OutKast – Hey Ya! (2003)

In 2003, OutKast seemed set to be the most important band of the decade. The duo kept on with their relentless innovation and experimentation that pushed the boundaries of hip-hop further and further, and at the same time made music that was entertaining and commercial. Unfortunately they kinda scattered about since then (although they didn't break up, and they promise to return), and left the stage to the less talented Black Eyed Peas. Here's a hit from the time when they were on top of the world, and showed that hip-hop, if it so wishes, can sound like sixties rock'n'roll. One of the most fun records of the decade.

4. OutKast - Bombs Over Baghdad (2000)

Ten years later, this amazing record doesn't just sound prophetic - it still sounds like the future. Its madness, captures in the call "bombs over Baghdad!", has unfortunately materialized later on in the decade. But the music, the frantic rap woven into a texture of hip-hop, drum 'n' base, electro and metal, still sound like nothing that goes on in the charts, and still contains the revitalizing force, which makes you jump on your feet and shout "power music electric revival! power music electric revival!" over and over and over again. Similar things are happening only in the underground, mainly in Britain. In the next decade, they will erupt to the surface.
