After the festivities of the first half of the decade, the second half was the time to pay the price. Greater liberty requires a higher sense of responsibility, and not all the girls who partied had that sense. One of the mid-decade buzzwords was "rehab", and most celebrities who went to rehab were female. And what's worse, being a wasted chick started to be regarded as cool.
Amy Winehouse personified this reality. It's not enough that her name implies alcoholism, but also the record responsible for her big break announced that she would not go to rehab, no, no, no. And Amy lived up to what her name and record promised, and continues to be the embodiment of the fucked up, anorectic, dope-headed and out of control chick.
Towards the end of the decade, it started to look like we can heave a sigh of relief. This lifestyle is no longer cool, and female consciousness started to go in other directions. One hopes that Winehouse will be swept by this tide as well, because this record also shows what a special voice she is in the pop world, and how much she probably still has to offer.
