31. Moloko - The Time is Now (2000)

A fabulous record, which only sounds more vintage with the passage of time. Moloko were an electronic dance group, but they used rock instruments as well, and here they do something that sounds more like Brit-pop. But these labels don't matter. The record creates its own world.

'The Time is Now' is one of those records that can serve as pop culture's anthem. That's the uniqueness of pop: rather than enslaving yourself to some boring dream of eternity, the thing which most previous worldviews promulgated, pop demands of us to surrender to the magic of the moment, and try to turn every moment of our life into something unique. And the record lives up to what it preaches, with a combination of angelic voices and sublime chords, affecting a magical atmosphere that engulfs you for as long as it lasts. Give up yourself unto the moment.
